Section 8 Assistance
What is Section 8 Tenant Based Housing Assistance?
It is a federally subsidized rental assistance program that allows a person to pay 30 % of their income for rent and utilities to a landlord.
It is administered by the Meade County Housing and Redevelopment Commission, and funds to subsidize rents are received from HUD (Housing & Urban Development).
Assistance to rent in the private sector in Meade, Butte, and Lawrence County is available. Apply at our Meade, Butte, Lawrence County Housing and Redevelopment Commission Office @ 1220 Cedar St. #113, Sturgis, SD.
Eligibility Factors
To be eligible for participation, an applicant must meet HUD’s criteria.
The applicant must pass a criminal background check.
The households annual income may not exceed the applicable income limits
Applicants must provide a social security card, births certificates or legal ID, proof of income, and assets for all household members.
All applicants must furnish evidence of citizenship or eligible immigration status.
